Planai Schladming
Planai-Hochwurzen-Bahnen is actually the biggest mountain lift and outdoor recreation company in Styria and the fifth-largest sector-business in Austria.
At seasonal peaks, the company employs as many as 410 people, including 230 employees who are with the company year-round.
Summer and winter, the company offers countless highlights to guests from near and far, whilst also hosting a number of top-caliber international events.
HISTORY & CHRONICLE OF THE Planai Hochwurzen-Bahnen:
- The first chairlift goes into operation in December 1949.
- In 1966, skiing begins with guests transported up the mountain on buses.
- 1979 sees a merger with the "Hochwurzen-Bahn" - and today's Planai-Hochwurzen-Bahnen company is born.
- In 1982, Schladming hosts the Alpine Ski World Championships for the first time.
- The now legendary "Nightrace" is held on the finish slope of the Planai for the first time in 1996, since when it has drawn 50,000 fans to Schladming annually in January.
- "Planet Planai" - 2010 rings in the beginning of a new era in tourism architecture with construction of the imposing valley station.
- The Alpine Ski World Championships return to Schladming in 2013 for the first time since 1982, generating headlines around the globe.
- In December, the new Planai 10-passenger gondola opens, setting a whole new standard in the world of gondola lifts.
- "Bikepark Schladming" opens in 2020 after major remodeling and new additions.
Winter
The ultimate in winter sports
Nestled amid the mountain world of Ennstal with direct view of the unique Dachstein massif, the Planai fulfills practically every wish of avid winter sports fans.
State-of-the-art lifts, magical pistes and countless "mountain highlights" promise a wealth of opportunities for all ages and abilities.
The Planai is part of the Ski amadé ticket alliance and, together with the Hochwurzen, is the center of the "4-Mountain Ski Area".
The legendary 4.6 kilometer FIS hill from the mountain down to the valley was and continues to be a very special highlight of the Planai, while the famous finish slope is the crowning glory.

Hopsiland
Excursion destination for the whole family
"Hopsi" was the furry little mascot of the Alpine Ski World Championships in 1982 and 2013.
This gray-and-white little hare is a big hero for children on the Planai, but also excites all ages in his very own "Hopsiland".
"Hopsiland" has many exciting play-stations in store for you:
- three-section ball track with pine-wood balls
- Hopsi´s Water World with pond and channels
- over-size snowcat made out of wood
- swings, slides and climbing elements
- Hopsis MountainSportWorld
- Goldbründl
- former Dachstein gondola
- "Kasalm" (indoor bowling lane)

- "Schladminger Kristall"
Kinderland is actually the highest playground in Styria, including a pram-friendly walking path roughly 1.5 kilometers in length.
One really special stop in "Hopsi Kinderland" is Station B at the Schafalm. The "Schafalm Playground" with its giant wooden sheep (slides, climbing frames, swings) as well as the Ball Tower is a true highlight for our younger guests.
