The Schütter family with the building contractors, Planai CEO (ret.) Albert Baier and former ski racer Hans Knauss.
Heinz & Reini Schütter, two brothers from the mountains of Schladming,
had the vision of building a mountain hut that was very different from all the others.
Using wood that had been recovered from nearby barns, this vision became reality in 2003.
The idea for the name "Schafalm" came from architect Fritz Hauswirth, who asked the Schütter brothers to describe what they did on a daily basis. Since their parents' farm, the "Schröckerhof", was also home to several sheep, the name "Schafalm" was born.
Over the years, the Schafalm established itself as one of the top businesses in the Schladming-Dachstein Region. After multiple phases of remodeling and additions, the Schafalm now comfortably hosts up to 500 guests indoors and 500 guests outdoors! During peak season dates, the Schafalm has around 50 employees.
